My Hero

My husband wants me to blog. He practically begged me to blog...so, what to tell you about? I could tell you about the two awesome IVs I started today, but you'd only appreciated that if you've ever tried to start one. I could tell you about the spoiled kid in the hospital who rings his call bell ALL. DAY. LONG. but it means nothing unless you have nightmares about call bells. I know!

MCM and I went shopping the other day, Friday I think. We went to Bed, Bath & Beyond. I like that store. We looked at the fine china (I only got one setting, so it's worthless unless we can both eat at the same time), but we had problems. The one they have record of me registering for has blue on it, and I'm pretty sure my one setting has no blue on it. I was going to check when we got home, *someone* forgot to remind me.

But we did manage to buy a new toaster! It's a great toaster! Nothing at all like the piece of poo we have now. The heating elements/timings are all messed up, so unless it's on the lowest setting, it completely chars the item being toasted. AND this new one is made espeically for bagels! The inner coils get hot, while the outer ones don't. AND this new one has wide slots! Now, my chunky bagels don't get stuck, and I won't get electricuted trying to eat breakfast!

We also bought a small fan. Guess who's part polar bear and thinks if it's not 20 degrees outside, it's hot?? Don't look at me, it's not me. Yeah. *looks at him* The best part about this fan, is that it's silent. Not just quiet, I can't sleep with quiet; it has to be pretty silent, otherwise it keeps me up. I'm serious! Little noises keep me awake. Like, hearing my own breathing bugs me. I've gotten somewhat used to MCM's breathing, if we're not facing each other.

One year for my birthday/Christmas, I asked for an alarm clock. That's all I wanted, an alarm clock. My mom's stepdad got me one. A little background on this guy. He had this shelf, called "The Tacky Shelf." All things, every things. So he bought me an alarm clock. Not just a simple digital alarm clock. It was a face and arms, with real bells and a wind-up-thingy. And it ticked. IT TICKED LOUDLY! I struggled with it for about 4 months. I tried everything, even hiding it under a pillow, but I still heard it! Then we went on vacation. I left it home. I could just imagine the baggage people (we took a boat to Carriacou from Grenada) going berzerkers over hearing a loud ticking! Anyways, after being not wound for a week, and my sleep being silent, I did my best to 'loose' it. Actually, I think I still that little bugger somewhere...

Two years later, I put an alarm clock back on my birthday/Christmas list. I got the on I still use today. Silent, digital, electric, battery back up, with a snooze :)

It's barely 9pm, and MCM's already knocked out on the couch. I can't blame him though. Sunday after work, I was just as pooped (it was my working weekend).

I like Pirates of the Caribbean. There's so many funny ironic lines. *laughing at the movie* Jack Sparrow cracks me up, "You smell funny." "Why is the rum gone...but why is the run gone?" "Elizabeth, I would never have worked out between us. I'm sorry, darling."

Anyways, I have a blasted staff meeting to go to. It's the time that makes it so...annoying. 730 am, or 730pm. And it's always on a Wednesday. Stinks for me cause of church, so I have to go the super-crack of dawn meeting. I mean, yeah, by 730am, I'm usually in the middle of muck on the floor, but not by personal choice, y'know? Anyways, I'll be bringing myself some breakfast, I'm thinking a chicken biscuit from Chik-fil-A. Want some?

Oh, I have you to tell you, MCM was a hero today again! He found a roach on the bathroom floor, almost dead, but still moving his legs. But still, he saved me, and destroyed the roach!

Nurses' Appreciation Week

This past week at the Careplex was Nurses’ Appreciation Week. The mayor of the city of Hampton officially declared May 5th through May 12th of 2008 Nurses’ Appreciation Week in the city of Hampton. See, Hampton is not in a county. It is it’s own city with it’s own mayor. There’s definite line of demarcation between Hampton and Newport News. Like, our apartment complex is in Hampton, yet just a little 5 minute drive down the road, Mark’s work is in Newport News. Whatever.

Anyways, for nurses’ week, they gave us all memos about wearing white and wearing our cap from graduation. I didn’t have white scrubs, so I had to go shopping. I mean, I got to! It was a long time since I had been shopping for something I needed, rather than, let’s see what they have on sale. I tried on many white tops with white pants. Finally, I found one I liked the best. The lady at the place was trying to be helpful. She told me she had this dress (horrifying images of clinicals paraded through my head) that was short, like mid-thigh. And she was going on about spandex and shorts and tights.

You cannot imagine my relief when, in a disappointment filled voice, she said someone must have bought it already. I wasn’t sure how I was going to explain to her that I wasn’t interested, but I didn’t have to. So here’s my outfit. As for my hat, I accidentally left it on the couch when I left. It was truly on accident, cause my preceptor and I were going to wear out caps together. But oh well, it’s ok.

Yeah, I dressed up for pictures. Your point is?

The infamous hat. It's kinda squished now. It got piled under a bunch of stuff, and I finally found it and rescued it Friday as we were leaving for Fredericksburg. Go to my facebook and check out the pics I got as I was trying the different combinations out.

Also, go see how cute McKenna has gotten. She's funny. She's really a...I was going to say ladies man, but that's not what I mean. She's the female version of the ladies man. She practically ran to Uncle Mark when he showed up, but just stared at me. She'll sit in his lab to watch him play computer games all day, but if I even *think* holding her, she'll whine. It's not just me, the same thing for my mom, and my sisters. Eh, it's not the end of the world.

Gone Shopping

I went grocery shopping yesterday, chose Target over Wally-land for certain items. I kinda hate going shopping by myself. I mean, like, if I was to see someone with funky shoes, with whom would I snicker about it? It'd look really insane if I walked around the store going, "Did you see her shoes? No, that lady, in the plaid." "Yeah, I had to do a double take. Thought my eyes we freaking out." No, just not happening. So, I got my cart and started my great search. The one thing you have to understand about this Target. Basically, only white people go there. That makes it quiet and people scarce. But my cart, I got the one cart that everyone puts back. Wanna know why? It squeaks as it rolls. So here I go, down the kitchen appliance aisle. My cart goes "EEEK, EK, EEEEEEEK." It felt like every body was listening to me and my cart. Every eye was tuned in to me and my journey. So, I tried going slowly. The cart went, "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK, EEEEEEEEEEEEEEK." That so didn't work. I tried the just-look-oblivious method. How dumb is that. Walking along, looking at stuff, people looking at me, laughing as I pass. I tried going fast. The cart went, "EEKEEKEEKEEKEEKEEKEEKEEK." I put that to an end and tried the next logical thing. But it would have been so much better with a friend. Friend could distract the person, and I could swipe their cart and switch our stuff. Then, they'd be stuck with the eeeky cart, and I could slip though Target unsnickered at. But, since I was alone, I had to be clever and find a different way to rid myself of this cart, but not so that I end up cart-less. Help came to me in the form of three empty carts stacked at the end of a toy aisle. I gathered up my meager choices, dumped them in one of the carts, and broke up my relationship with Eeeky. I was terrified that this new cart might be a sibling or close cousin to Eeeky, but my fears were put to rest when I strolled along silently. Ah, blissful quietness!
